Cookie Information vs. CookieFirst comparison

Cookie Information and CookieFirst are both Europe-based consent management platforms that help you collect and store user consents on your website. While CookieFirst is a simpler platform helping you manage your cookies and consents, Cookie Information offers a wider variety of products and services that help you on your compliance journey. Keep reading to understand the key differences between the two.

Cookie Information pros

Getting started with Cookie Information is simple and your cookie banner can be installed on your website in just a couple of simple steps. You can add the script in your source code, or implement it via GTM or their WordPress plugin. You always get a 14-day free trial without any strings attached, and you only need to submit your payment information when creating a subscription afterwards.

The customization possibilities offered by Cookie Information are limitless. You can change all components of the cookie banner, fonts, or colors through JavaScript, HTML or CSS. You can also get the banner fully customized and designed by their team if you wish, for a small extra fee.
Their reporting dashboards are more complete than many of their competitors’. You get granular consent rate monitoring (consent data for each of the categories) via their Compliance Dashboard (part of the Professional package), which helps you work on consent rate optimization. You also get a clear overview of potential unclassified cookies or other compliance risks.
Cookie Information has also been praised on several occasions for their high level of customer support. They are known for responding promptly in case of implementation questions, and also offer full support in case of audits. Some of their higher tier packages provide you with a dedicated account manager that supports you on the compliance journey and can cater for enterprise business needs.

“We have 20+ clients running on our Cookie Information partner account”
What do you like best about Cookie Information?
Their support is second-to-none. Reply within minutes and you can even get personal phone support. This has been essential for my team, as we are not specialized in consent implementations.

“Fast, easy and great support”
What do you like best about Cookie Information?
The self-help section is excellent. Since my company is small and we don’t have the resources to outsource, the do-it-yourself approach was what I had to do. The guides were super easy and I could set everything up nicely. Customer service quickly answers and checks if you hav e done a good job.

Cookie Information cons

Cookie Information’s current pricing model is a bit more complex than CookieFirst’s. Their prices are calculated based on the number of subpages your website has, and how many user consents are you collecting across your account. For smaller websites with simpler needs, CookieFirst can be a more affordable alternative.
Cookie Information does not currently offer geotargeting based on IP address, but that doesn’t mean that you cannot customize the banner based on user location at all. You can show different variations of your cookie banner based on the (sub)domains you have on your website, or add a language switcher to your cookie pop-up.

CookieFirst pros

Setting up CookieFirst is straightforward, and they offer a 14-day free trial that enables you to test their different features before committing. Their styling and management are highly praised by users. Customizing their banner is easy in their intuitive platform, but you should be aware that more advanced customization is only supported in their higher pricing packages.
They offer the possibility of showing banners in specific regions and hiding them in others, which offers a lot of flexibility in terms of ensuring compliance across regions.
They also offer direct access to Consent Logs and Billing Information directly on the platform, which makes it easy for customers to get relevant information without engaging with their customer support reps.

CookieFirst cons

Some customers have complained about CookieFirst’s cookie classification capabilities and the option to change the classification previously made. More specifically, users have flagged that some cookies get automatically flagged as ‘marketing’, and this cannot be adjusted.
There have also been some concerns about the load time and that the banner sometimes is too slow, which can affect performance, UX or A/B tests.

Is Cookie Information a good alternative to CookieFirst?

Features
While both companies will handle your basic compliance needs just as well, there are some particular differences worth mentioning here. CookieFirst wins on geotargeting and setup customization, but might not categorize cookies as accurately. Cookie Information offers unlimited banner customization possibilities, great customer support, and much more granular statistics that can help you make smarter business decisions.
Product Roadmap
CookieFirst’s main focus is managing cookies and consent on websites. With Cookie Information, businesses can get more data-privacy products and services from the same supplier. They also offer Consent Banners for Mobile Apps, first-party Analytics, Customer Data Platform, Whistleblowing, Data Subject Requests, and Data Discovery, helping to cater for more complex business needs.
Pricing
The pricing models of the two platforms are difficult to compare, as they are built differently. While the starting price is lower for CookieFirst, there are valuable features which are included by Cookie Information in all price tiers, while CookieFirst only unlocks them in the more expensive packages (such as IAB TCF 2.2 support).
